  Instructor Validation

Overview

The Instructor Validation Process serves as the first layer of human oversight after a potential integrity flag. It empowers instructors to review flagged results and determine whether a student notification is necessary, ensuring fairness, accuracy, and reduced workload for the Integrity Committee.

Key Objectives

• Verify and confirm integrity flags before student notification.

• Prevent false positives across AI, plagiarism, and authorship categories.

• Maintain transparency, due process, and instructor control.

Validation Categories

• AI-Generated or AI-Assisted Content: Detects machine-produced writing patterns and AI probability scores.

• Plagiarism or Improper Citation: Compares text with academic and proprietary databases to highlight matched or missing sources.

• Authorship Inconsistency: Identifies deviations in writing style through stylometric and keystroke analysis.

Validation Methods

• Reactive Prompt (Optional): A short, timed writing exercise to confirm writing authenticity.

• Oral Defense (Optional): A 3–5-minute verbal explanation of the assignment to verify understanding.

Instructor Control

Only instructors can confirm or dismiss flagged results. HonestIQ never auto-notifies students without instructor validation. All instructor actions are securely logged for compliance and audit purposes.

Decision & Notification Control

After completing the validation process, instructors maintain full control over next steps. HonestIQ never auto-notifies students without instructor review. All outcomes are human-led and documented for accuracy.

Instructors can:

• Dismiss a flag if the evidence doesn’t meet institutional or professional thresholds.

• Confirm a flag when authorship or originality concerns remain valid.

• Delay notification until validation (such as a Reactive Prompt) is complete.

• Trigger student notification only after confirming the Honest report.

• Initiate escalation to the Oral Defense phase when further clarification is required.

Documentation & Compliance

All instructor actions and validation data are automatically captured within the Institutional Integrity Log for transparency and accountability.

Each log entry includes:

• Detection category and flag type (AI, plagiarism, authorship)

• Validation method used (Reactive Prompt, Oral Defense, or manual review)

• Instructor notes and supporting evidence

• Timestamps of all actions taken

• Secure, audit-ready storage for institutional compliance

Timeline

Validation must be completed within three business days of the Honest Report. Once validated, confirmed flags proceed to the Oral Defense stage if needed.

Dispute Resolution & Due Process

HonestIQ supports fair human-led review of academic integrity concerns. Submissions are never automatically penalized.  Institutions retain full control over their dispute resolution processes in accordance with institutional policy.
