Instructor Validation Safeguard

Before any flagged notification is sent to a student, HonestIQ follows a multi-stage validation process led by trained instructors. This ensures every concern is grounded in evidence, context, and professional judgment not automation.

When an assignment exceeds AI or plagiarism thresholds, HonestIQ generates a draft flag that is visible only to the instructor. A detailed Honest Report accompanies the flag, breaking down detection data, confidence levels, and contextual analysis to guide instructor review. At this stage, the student is not notified ensuring the case is privately reviewed first.

The instructor carefully examines all components of the Honest Report, including:

• Sentence-level AI probability and influence scores

• Authorship consistency and stylistic variance

• Citation and plagiarism findings

• Contextual indicators such as tone, structure, and coherence

This review allows instructors to apply their academic expertise, ensuring that only credible, evidence-based flags move forward.

After reviewing the data, the instructor determines whether escalation is warranted.

• Confirm Flag: If the evidence supports the concern, the instructor validates the flag and triggers the official notification to the student and administrators.

• Dismiss Flag: If determined to be a false flag or inconclusive, the instructor documents their reasoning and clears the case.

In both instances, the outcome is logged in the Integrity Logbook for full transparency and future auditing. ​

Privacy, Encryption, and Data Protection

HonestIQ provides multiple layers of encryption and access control to protect institutional data.


All institutional data is encrypted using AES-256 while stored (“at rest”) and TLS 1.3 during transfer. This ensures that no unauthorized third party can intercept, read, or alter information whether it’s a flagged assignment, integrity report, or committee decision.

Every institution operates within a dedicated data environment, meaning its data and logs are fully segregated from other clients. This prevents cross-institution access and allows compliance with region-specific data-sovereignty laws (e.g., GDPR, FERPA).

Access to information follows a principle of least privilege. Roles such as instructor, student, administrator, and committee member each have defined permissions. System administrators cannot view student content without explicit institutional authorization.

HonestIQ enforces multi-factor authentication for all administrator and committee logins. This significantly reduces unauthorized access risks and adds an extra verification layer for sensitive workflows, such as case reviews and report exports.

Institutions can determine how long data, logs, and flagged cases remain stored. Once retention limits are reached, data is automatically purged or anonymized. Institutions can export their records before deletion, ensuring transparency and control..
